Drawings of Subject Matter

Photos of Subject Matter
I took some photos that I felt were similar to the subject matter within 'Welcome to Night Vale', to use in future drawings and scamps, and to help inspire me.
I considered the lighting and angle of the photographs, photographing what I felt would be an attractive, clear and interesting image.
The Cacti were to allude to the fact that 'Night Vale' is a desert town, and I felt that if I were to include a background that featured the ground on my cover, cacti would be important imagery.
The headphones and microphone are in reference to the radio station setting of 'Night Vale', I got my brother to pose with his face not in shot, to symbolise the mystery of the character's appearance.
Eyes are common 'Night Vale' symbolism, also tying into the theme of conspiracy and 'illuminati' type iconography. The image was not in focus enough for the iris photo to be successful, so I did not feel as if I could use it successfully.

Similar Artefacts- Pintrest Board
This is a collection of book covers that I found work well and attract me. I created a pintrest board, and used the board throughout the production of my book cover so I could refer to successful covers while designing.

Proposition
Below is my proposition for my book cover design. I decided on making a cover based on the popular podcast series 'Welcome to Night Vale'.
Originally I considered the poem 'Inferno' by Dante Aligheri, a book I'm also familiar with, but I felt it may be hard to capture the key events of the story on a book cover without being too literal, so I went with Night Vale.
Brainstorming
I brainstormed ideas surrounding the theme 'Earth, Air, Fire and Water' that I could use for my book cover design.
