Book Jacket- Final Pieces

Cover  1.

I used my earlier draft to plan out the basics of my book jacket.

Using ink and brush I drew out the image for my front cover.  I then neatened and coloured in PaintTool Sai.

I created the sign in photoshop where I altered the perspective, and then place in Sai with the 'monster' image.

Extra Scamps and Drafting

I did some basic scamps and drafting of possible elements and ideas I could feature in my book cover spread.

After my artist copy I also scamped some ideas I could use in my emulation, and how I could incorporate it into my book spread design.

I created a couple of very rough drafts in Photoshop.

Using Paint Tool SAI I mocked up  a possible background for my book cover and thought about the arrangement of elements.

Type Choices

I created a mood board using themes and fonts that I felt reflected the style and iconography within the book cover I am creating.

Using the mood board I experimented with type ideas that I felt could be used in my book cover design. I felt using only capital letters would be most effective with the scratchy, rough type of type I wanted to use to reflect the mood of the book.

Below is the character set I felt was most successful once scanned in and cleaned up a bit, I wanted to keep in some of the ink splatters and rough edges to create a 'scratched in' effect.

Type Choices- Digital

I gathered together examples of type, and evaluated their appropriateness for use in my book jacket, and the elements of the font that work and don't work. I also used this evaluation to aid me when making my own typeface later on.
